Brief Introduction of the Department :
About the Department:-
The Department of Law made its humble beginning in the year 1946 when the University of Saugor became functional. It is the oldest Law Department in Madhya Pradesh. It is indeed a matter of great privilege for the Department of Law that the founder of the University, Doctor Harisingh Gour, M.A., D.C.L., LL.D. (Cantab.), D.Litt., D.sc. , Member of the Inner Temple, Knight Bar at - Law and member of Constituent Assembly. He himself was a renowned lawyer, great jurist and social reformer.
The CBCS (Choice-Based-CreditSystem) has been introduced from the academic session 2009-2010. The course curriculum is modified from time to time. At present the existing syllabus of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five years integrated law course and LL.B. three years course is as per Legal Education Rules, 2008. The syllabus of LL.M. is as per UGC guidelines.

Candidates seeking admission to this programme must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examinations as a regular student from a recognized Board/Institution. Candidates belonging to Unreserved (UR), EWS and OBC-NCL categories must have secured at least 45% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA in the qualifying examination. A relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination will be given to candidates belonging to SC and ST categories in this programme.

Candidate must have passed LL.B. 3 Years after graduation under 10+2+3 pattern of five years LL.B. under 10+2+5 pattern duly recognized by the Bar Council of India and have secured a minimum of 50% Marks or equivalent CGPA in the LL.B. Degree. Relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination will be given to the candidates belonging to SC, ST and PWD categories for the admission in this programme.

10 (Session 2021-22)
Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. Programme must have a Masters degree in the concerned/relevant/allied subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent CGPA or equivalent Grade.
